Our vision is to continue building on the strong foundation of hard work that has transcended across a long line of family entrepreneurs. Dorr Granger left West Michigan in the 1930s to attend college in Lansing. He got a job working part-time for a construction company, but when the owner ran into financial difficulty, Dorr decided to step in and take over the operation.
Dorr invited his brother Keith, Gary’s grandfather, to join the business. Together, they built churches, commercial buildings, and other structures in Michigan over the next 20 years. The pair even invented the first “kit” approach to building log cabins.
By 1958, the two Granger brothers decided to split their successful venture and create two new companies. Keith and his three sons, including Gary’s father, Alton, started what eventually became Granger Construction. The oldest of the third generation, Gary started working for the family company in 1977 after finishing a degree in architectural engineering at the University of Colorado.
In 1996, after nearly 20 years of working for his father, Gary left the family business to form Granger Group. From the beginning, Gary sought to deliver built environments that would improve work, life, and community. He continues to believe that Granger provide extraordinary value by combining innovative solutions with a systematic delivery process.
